Commander's
Message
We
are coming into my favorite time of the year. We just had
our first, although weak cold front. It actually dipped down
to the mid 60’s this morning. Several of us attended the
recent 12th District Picnic held in Wickham Park in
Melbourne. It was a fund raiser to benefit Boy’s & Girl’s
State. Both very worthy programs, and as I understand a new
record amount was raised. Way to go 12th District. We had
the pleasured of hosting the new State Commander, Paul
Martel for a dinner in his honor. Paul is a dynamite speaker
and really loves his job. He has made a commitment to visit
all the Legion Posts throughout the state. At our recent
Post meeting we donated $318 to the Purple Heart Memorial
Fund to erect a lasting memorial to all area combat wounded
veterans in our area. Our Post has many. This is being
spearheaded by the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 566 and the
United Veterans of the city of Port St. Lucie. There is a
lot of upcoming parties & events here at 318. Many of them
are free. Please check the newsletter for dates & times.
Being free is almost the same as costing no money. Finally,
the member of the month is a gentleman who has devoted a
large amount of time to our bylaw revisions, at least a
year of searching for a new Post home & handled several
legal proceedings. He is our own Bob Booth. Congratulations
on several jobs well done.
Jim
Burk, Commander

First
Vice
Legionnaires, we ask for your help! We already have one of
the best Posts in the District if not in the State. Part of
this distinction is our membership drive. Some of you think,
why should I renew my membership until I have to? If our
members can’t wait to renew their membership then it shows
that they can’t wait to show their support for our Post.
Help us to continue to be an example and hopefully and
inspiration to other Posts who may not have the support of
their membership that we have. Renew your membership now
instead of waiting until the last minute. We need 50 more
members by December 5 to obtain 75%, and we need 265 more
for 100% membership. Thank you!
Denny Cush, Fist Vice Commander

First let me remind everyone that there will
be a ceremony at Veterans Park on 11/11, which is Veteran’s
Day. The park is located on Veterans Memorial Drive in Pt.
St. Lucie. The time is 11am. Anyone wishing to attend may do
so. There are tents, chairs and water provided. The
Chaplains from all the different organizations will be there
to read the names of all the veterans who have been called
to Post Everlasting. For those of you who haven’t been to
this ceremony, I highly recommend it. As always, we are here
for you, if you are a qualified veteran. Just call the Post
and they will get in touch with me or go to my e-mail
nyack26ja@bellsouth.net and I will get back to you.

President's message
Hi
Ladies!
Fall
is finally in the air and it’s time for a District 12
update. Dorothy Walsh, our President is very active in
District 12 events. I attended the District Picnic at
Wickham Park in Melbourne, which was hosted by Dorothy &
Commander Carl Schneider and held to raise funds for Boy’s &
Girl’s State. Over $7000 was generously donated by Posts &
Units in District 12 for this worthy cause. President
Dorothy also shared with the Units a Department communiqué
which congratulated our District for being in the top 5 for
meeting membership goals for October 1. And, at our Unit, I
must send a world of thanks to Linda Geraghty for all of her
efforts with our own membership roster. She informed us at
the general membership meeting that we are at 65% of our
goal for the year already! Recently, we have had visits from
not only the Post District 12 Commander, Carl Snyder and his
wife Lydia, but also Eastern Area Commander, Gunner Dudley
and his wife Belinda, along with State Commander Paul
Martell and his wife. They love visiting our Post because of
the great participation, our generous heart, warm welcome
and as they say “We really know to show them a good time.!”
That is what we are all about! On that note, I hope to see
you at the Post real soon, enjoying one of the many events
we have planned for November!
Thought for the day: “A woman is like a tea bag - you don’t
know how strong she is until you put her in hot water.”

The SAL
will be giving a check to the Salvation Army for their
Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy. We will also have our
Christmas Party for our foster kids Dec. 13 at 11:30. Please
stop by and say hi to the kids. Tickets are on sale for our
laptop computer and all the extras that go with it. The
monies raised helps with the Christmas Party for the kids.
So dig deep. It is for a great cause and will help us get
great gifts for deserving children. Wednesday night dinners
continue to be a big hit. Last month we served over 80
dinners. Thanks all. To Jim & Mary McLaughlin, thank you for
the idea of selling the American Flags that will be
displayed to show our pride in America. Because you
undertook this task, not only did you help show our love for
our country, but you also raised a lot of money for the SAL.
We thank you.
I just want to say the Sons are saddened by the passing of
our good friend John Michael, a World War II veteran, a
diehard Giant fan and a big supporter of the Sons. We will
miss you John. Let us see everyone at the Veteran’s Day
service.

I am responsible to get the newsletter to
each and every one of you who are entitled to get it. I work
off of member list of each part of the post. Unless your
representative gives me the info, it will not get to you. I
am sure that when you send me your name and address you
think that you are due a newsletter, but
you must
work through
either the Legion, Auxiliary or Sons. If you send me your
information, that is great, but unless I can verify with
whatever part of the Post you are connected with, you will
not get the newsletter. An example is: Joe Blow, 111
Main St. PSL. 00000 I didn’t get a newsletter. I have a new
card. Quarry? Legion? Auxiliary? Sons? We have over 1200
members. It is important that you get the info to me via
your part of the Post.

have come to love.
All monies taken in by the Post goes towards our veterans and
their families. It is vitally important that you and all of
our members help to make the Post a place to have fun, but
more important, a conduit to help veterans and their
families.
