Commander's
Message
Well, here it is April and I would like to thank each
organization for their commitment to Post 318. We have
received numerous praises from our District, Area and State
Commander. It is through hard work that makes Post 318 what
it is today. It is also that time of year when we start
looking for members to become more involved in the Post,
namely running for office. At our March 2008 meeting we
named a Nomination Committee headed by Ed Sandora. This
committee’s function is to seek out and identfy qualified
individuals to run for office. If you or someone you know is
interested in filling any Post position, please let Ed know.
Don’t sit around and say what is wrong with the Post,
get involved and do something about it.
Also, at our next monthly Post membership meeting, we will be
discussing and ratifying any revisions to our Constitution
and By-Laws. The recommended changes are posted on the
bulletin board and copies are kept behind the bar for anyone
who wants to read them in detail.
In the upcoming months our Auxiliary Unit 318 will be hosting
its Annual Golf Tournament, we will have a Post 318 day at
the St. Lucie Mets ballfield (5/3/08) and our own Post 318
reunion day will be April 26 at the Post. We will have free
ham and potato salad and are asking everyone to bring a
covered dish. The Sons will be doing their great job of
cooking the clams and other entertainment will be available.
Come out and support your Post.
Finally, this month’s
MEMBER OF THE MONTH
is Harold “Hal” Barth. Hal is the 1st Vice for the Sons and
has never waited to be asked to do something. He is there
preparing and cooking dinners on Wednesdays, he always there
to help in Post cleanup and does whatever he can to make
this a better Post. Again, thanks and congratulations on a
job well done.

HOLD EM' TOURNAMENT
Our next tournament will be held on Tuesday,
April 15 at 7pm. Doors open at 6:30. We play from 7 to 11pm
if it lasts that long. In order to play you must be a member
of the Post (Legion, Aux. Or SAL). Any member may bring a
guest, but that member must also play. Kitchen is open to a
little after the 8pm break for your eating pleasure. Come
down, have fun and help your Post to be better.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Our
Texas Hold’Em Championship for 2007 - 2008 will be held on
Sunday, April 13 at 2pm at the Post. We will try to start at
2pm and go until only one player remains. The only people
eligible to play are the monthly winners from April 2007 to
March 2008. All of the players will be given $10,000 in
chips. For this tournament we will be doing the small blind

because only the best players make it this far.

Do You (Not) Want The Newsletter?
I
made a huge mistake. Instead of asking you if you wanted to
keep receiving, I should have asked if you wanted to stop
the newsletter. There was some worry that if you didn’t
complete the form you would not be receiving the newsletter.
Please don’t worry, if you are entitled to receive it, you
will. If you don’t want the newsletter for whatever reason,
please email that information to me at 318editor@bellsouth.net.
I don’t want to receive hundreds of emails, but if I can
help you resolve a problem, please feel free to try to get
help by reaching me via the 318 editor email. I can’t say
for sure that I will resolve the problem, but I will try. If
you think there is something that we can do to make the
newsletter better, please let me know. Dick Boulette, Editor

Sixth Annual Aux. Golf
Tournament
Sunday, May 18 at Gator Trace Golf Club. Last
year we had a record number participants and all had a great
time after the tournament at the Post. Mark your calendars
and sign up early, because we only have a limited number of
foursomes.
Signup sheet is posted at the Post. Please make sure to
include your phone # so we can confirm your reservation. We
will have putting contest, Texas Hold’Um, longest drive,
closest to the pin and much more. Commemorative photos for a
nominal fee.
Cost will be $55 per person & payment no later than May 4,
two week prior to tournament. Checks made payable to the
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 318 and left with bartender.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100 per hole. They are a
great way advertise your business or to honor a loved one.
Anyone wishing to be a sponsor or make a gift donation
should contact “Mo” Aitken @772-879-4859 for more info. We
hope you will join us for this fun-filled event. It is an
enjoyable day and good way to help our needy veterans.

Entertainment For The Troops
We
recently learned that troops in Iraq at bases outside of
Baghdad have little if any entertainment to help them relax
during their down time. TV’s are scarce and VHS
non-existent. Usually a couple of the guys will have their
own lap tops which have DVD players built in. They do use
these to play movies they get from home or buy at the
exchange. To help the troops’ morale get a boost, we are
collecting DVD’s to send them. Any type of movie is fine
with them. We are asking Post members to please go through
the stash of DVD’s you have at home and if there are any
that you no longer want, please consider donating them to
the cause. There will be a box set up in the canteen for
this purpose. PLEASE no X-rated movies.

Dart League
The Dart
League started on Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 with a
good showing and will continue every Thursday through the
month of May. Kitchen will be open for your convenience.
Come on in and make a night of it.

American Legion Summer Golf League
We
are going to start the league on Wednesday, May ?. The
league technically starts at 5pm, but thanks to Gator Trace
we are given a certain amount of leeway. Some of us can
start earlier & some can’t. We have to work with them. We
are going to meet at the Post on Sunday, April 20 at 1pm.
This year the entry fee will be $50 per person, which will
include closest to the pin or whatever and cash prizes at
the end of the year. The first top 3 teams will be on the
golf champions plaque on the wall next to the dart machine.
