Commander's
Message
Feb.
was a very good month for our Post. We were visited on the
8th by not only the State of Florida Dept. Commander Warren
Post, but also the Eastern Area Commander Charles Rousseau &
12th District Commander Arthur “Gunner” Dudley.
They arrived at the Post around 6:15pm along with their
wives. They had dinner & enjoyed the night’s entertainment
as well. The Dept. Commander expressed his pleasure with
all that our Post does to no only support our veterans but
also our children and youth programs. Commander Post further
stated that if he lived in this area of the state, “this
would be the Post I would want to belong to.”
The following night, our Aux. had their “Luau” which was
attended by many members of the Post. Also we were fortunate
to have “Past National Commander John P. “Jake” Comer” in
attendance. I wonder when the last time a Post could say
that they had the Dept. Commander & a Past National
Commander visit their Post in the same month, let alone in
two days.
On Feb. 18 the Legion interviewed (3) individuals to attend
Boys State in June. All three were selected from St. Lucie
West Centennial High School Naval JROTC program.
I would like to thank Tom Loudon or Service Officer & Dan
Newman our Finance Officer for their quick response in
helping a homeless Iraqi Veteran in need. Going through
channels would have taken 3 or 4 days, our Post provided
funds to get him off the street & into temporary lodging
until the paper work could be completed.
DON’T FORGET MARCH MONTHLY MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 8.
Finally, this months MEMBER OF THE MONTH is Linda Keifer.
Linda gets IT DONE. Linda has only been a member of the AUX
for (2) years, but has left a lasting impression on all.
Again, thank you and congratulations for a job well done.
Frank Howard, Commander

TEXAS
HOLD EM' TOURNAMENT
Our next tournament will be held on Tuesday,
April 15 at 7pm. Doors open at 6:30. We play from 7 to 11pm
if it lasts that long. In order to play you must be a member
of the Post (Legion, Aux. Or SAL). Any member may bring a
guest, but that member must also play. Kitchen is open to a
little after the 8pm break for your eating pleasure. Come
down, have fun and help your Post to be better.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS
Our
Texas Hold’Em Championship for 2007 - 2008 will be held on
Sunday, April 13 at 2pm at the Post. We will try to start at
2pm and go until only one player remains. The only people
eligible to play are the monthly winners from April 2007 to
March 2008. All of the players will be given $10,000 in
chips. For this tournament we will be doing the small blind
and big blind. This should be a very good championship
because only the best players make it this far.

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS
Many thanks to who attended the Luau. Hope you all had a
great time. I had many comments on how good it was & how
much fun they had with all the games, music, etc.
A big thanks to Robin Burk, Wanda O’Neill,
Margaret Trocki, Linda Keifer, Laura Mastermaker and her
wonderful husband Fred, & Judy Murphy. WE COULD NOT HAVE
SUCH A SUCCESSFUL YEAR SO FAR WITHOUT YOUR ASSISTANCE.
We were so honored to have the National Past
Commander, Jake Comer at our Luau along with our 12th
District Commander & his wife.
Mo Aitken is moving right along with the Golf Tournament
again this year. Please call her or come down & give her a
hand on May 18 - there is quite a bit to do & we can
certainly use the help. This is our biggest fundraiser so
let’s all join in & make it a successful one. We are still
collecting school supplies! See Brenda for some ideas. There
is a bin at the Canteen for you to drop them off.
Regular Meeting will take place on March 15 at 12pm.
Remember, we need your attendance, volunteerism, talents &
qualities to accomplish all we want to do this year.
ALWAYS A PLEASURE,
Sunny Lavalle, President

Hello Post
318
We had a great turnout at our Wednesday night dinner where we
served 70 dinners. I would like to thank the volunteers who
helped make it possible.
Great Job!
I would also like to thank the members for attending. We
received a lot of compliments on our dinner. Our next dinner
will be Wednesday, March 12 and we will be serving lasagna
again,
don’t miss out!
Our next raffle will be a laptop computer.
The drawing will be in April. Tickets will be $10 a chance.
I would like to thank all the members who attended the
meeting, we had a good turnout.
We will be having our S.A.L. Clam Bake on Memorial Day
weekend.
Elections will be coming up soon. We need new members to step
up & take a position. We have about 185 S.A.L. members & the
same handful of people volunteer all the time.
STEP UP AND SUPPORT YOUR SQUADRON.
Our next meeting will be Monday, April 14 at
7pm. Don’t forget to check your membership cards, if you do
not have a 2008 card you will lose all of your privileges.
Andy Saffioti, S.A.L. Commander

Dart League
Starting on
Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 and every Thursday through the
month of May. Kitchen will be open for your convenience.
Come on in and make a night of it.

Ft.
Pierce Central Honor Society
This exceptional group interviewed members or
our Post to get an insight into who and what it takes to
keep our country safe and to continue our freedoms. They met
and talked and hopefully learned that freedom isn’t free.
They met with veterans from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Granada,
Gulf Wars and others. We thank those veterans who have done
their duty and rarely before this, share their memories of
things done bravely and without fanfare. It is so very
important that our children and their children learn what
the word sacrifice means. All of these interviews will be
put in the Congressional Library for future generations.

Entertainment For The Troops
We
recently learned that troops in Iraq at bases outside of
Baghdad have little if any entertainment to help them relax
during their down time. TV’s are scarce and VHS
non-existent. Usually a couple of the guys will have their
own lap tops which have DVD players built in. They do use
these to play movies they get from home or buy at the
exchange. To help the troops’ morale get a boost, we are
collecting DVD’s to send them. Any type of movie is fine
with them. We are asking Post members to please go through
the stash of DVD’s you have at home and if there are any
that you no longer want, please consider donating them to
the cause. There will be a box set up in the canteen for
this purpose. PLEASE no X-rated movies.

Sixth Annual Aux. Golf
Tournament
Sunday, May 18 at Gator Trace Golf Club. Last
year we had a record number participants and all had a great
time after the tournament at the Post. Mark your calendars
and sign up early, because we only have a limited number of
foursomes.
Signup sheet is posted at the Post. Please make sure to
include your phone # so we can confirm your reservation. We
will have putting contest, Texas Hold’Um, longest drive,
closest to the pin and much more. Commemorative photos for a
nominal fee.
Cost will be $55 per person & payment no later than May 4,
two week prior to tournament. Checks made payable to the
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 318 and left with bartender.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100 per hole. They are a
great way advertise your business or to honor a loved one.
Anyone wishing to be a sponsor or make a gift donation
should contact “Mo” Aitken @772-879-4859 for more info. We
hope you will join us for this fun-filled event. It is an
enjoyable day and good way to help our needy veterans.

American Legion Summer Golf League
We
are going to start the league on Wednesday, May ?. The
league technically starts at 5pm, but thanks to Gator Trace
we are given a certain amount of leeway. Some of us can
start earlier & some can’t. We have to work with them. We
are going to meet at the Post on Sunday, April 20 at 1pm.
This year the entry fee will be $50 per person, which will
include closest to the pin or whatever and cash prizes at
the end of the year. The first top 3 teams will be on the
golf champions plaque on the wall next to the dart machine.
