Commander's
Message
Well it's now official, the Post has a new
Commander. The installation of all new officers for the
Legion, Auxiliary, Sons and Riders took place on August
12th. The event had a large turnout representing all
elements of the Post. The District staff was quite impressed
not only by the turnout but also by the warm response they
received. The new District Commander stated, "your Post has
made me and my staff feel as though we were lifelong members
of Post 318."
The Post has two big functions scheduled for September.
The first is the S.A.L. Pig Roast scheduled for September
2nd. I cordially invite all members of Post 318 to come out
and support this S.A.L. function. I'm sure you'll have a
great time! Our second event is VETSFEST, schedule for
September 22nd at Tradition Field. This event will bring
awareness to the "Heroes to Hometown" program as well as
raise funds for it. Since I was selected to be the Project
Coordinator for this event, most of my time until this event
is over will be dedicated to insuring that it is successful.
So, if you don't see me around the Post, it's not because I
don't want to be there, it just means that I want this event
to be the best it can be and show our community that we care
not only for veterans but our current members of the
military who place themselves in "harms way" insuring
freedom and democracy prevail.
This month our "Member of the Month" is Richard "Dick"
Boulette. As you may already know, Dick was selected by his
peers in the Honor Guard as this year's recipient of the
"Honor Guardsman of the Year." Dick continually gives his
time freely for the good of the Post. As Assistant Sergeant
at Arms, he has insured continued coverage for not only
funerals and memorial services, but also conducted our
monthly Honor Guard training sessions to make sure "we do it
right." Congratulations to Dick are in order! We should all
thank Daryl for his many years of service as Post Commander!
Frank Howard, Commander

1st
Vice-Commander
I want to take a moment to thank you for
electing me 1st Vice for the upcoming year, I feel truly
honored.
Membership is currently at 65.44%. Let's step up to the
plate and get to our 100% as soon as possible and build on
that. If you are paid up, come to the next meeting and bring
a veteran. Imagine the possibilities. If you aren't paid up,
bring your dues payment and still bring a veteran.
We have been notified by Department that our portion of
dues sent to them will be increased by $2.00 effective
October 01, 2007. Because of the great response we have so
far received in dues payment, we had decided that the Post
will absorb the two dollar increase. We will review our dues
requirement prior to submission of this information to
Department in April 2008.
As our new Post Commander has stated, "this is the year
of the member," so lets all chip in and do our part to make
this the best Post in Florida.
Jim Burk, 1st.
Vice Commander

Greetings Post members,
Our annual poker run "Giving Vets a Hand" has come and
gone. It was a lot of hard work, but the end results make
it worth the effort. I would like to personally extend a
special thanks to everyone who made this day a success.
Thank you Riders and to all of the other Post members who
worked so hard to help us achieve our goals. It's always
rewarding to see what can be accomplished when everyone
works together.
As a S.A.L. it was an honor to be part of the
Installation of Officers ceremonies for Post 318 which took
place on August. 12th. The Post and the District Officers
honored the WW II and Korean War veterans in attendance. How
many of you knew that we have a member that is a survivor of
Pearl Harbor? I am personally looking forward to speaking to
this gentleman the next time he's in our Post. I have found
that the more I'm involved in Post activities, the more
interesting people I meet. Congratulations to all the
incoming and returning officers. I'm sure you will serve
your Post well.
The Legion Riders are looking forward to the upcoming
Vets Fest to be held at Traditions Field on Sept. 22. This
should prove to be a great family event to honor and show
support to our Veterans and their loved ones. I hope to see
all of you there. Lets not forget Patriot Day, Sept. 11.
This is a day for us all to remember our soldiers and
veterans for their sacrifices for our Freedom.

What a wonderful Post this would be if
every member did 1/2 of what they wanted every other member
to do. Brought to my attention by Tyler Schmeer on his
recent visit to upstate N.Y.
VETs

money for the "Heroes to Hometown" program. There will be

"VETS FEST FUN"
from Dick Boulette
At Vets Fest we will have meny
attractions, but I am in charge of the dunking booth. I am
sure there is some individual you would love to see hit the
water. At the Post we will have a sheet so that you can put
that persons name on it and if possible we will have the
ones whose names seem to come up the most, at your mercy.
You must rememnber that if it is one of the volunteers that
will be working very hard for at least 2 days to put this
together, it may not be possible for them to take time off
from their duties to get their just desserts. Also with this
article is a simple form that you can mail or bring to the
post with one or more names. Don't procrastinate, you will
only have a couple of weeks.
Send to American Legion Post 318, 8543 So. Federal Hwy, Port
St. Lucie, FL 34957. Attention: Dick
Boulette
